7 Beautiful Bathrooms With Stunning Black and White Floor Tile
If you are planning a bathroom makeover using black and white floor tile, this list will give you some inspiration and provides the sources for the tiles.
Of all of the new elements that I put in my master bathroom makeover, there are 2 things that I have had all kinds of questions and comments about.
The first is the zebra stencil on the walls (I will be doing a post on how to do that).
The second is the black and white floor tile.
While I loved the floor tiles the second I saw them, I didn’t realize everyone else would love them as much as I do! Although I probably shouldn’t be surprised since black and white is a very classic color combination that goes with pretty much every style.
When I was going through the process of picking the tiles, I actually saw quite a few different patterns that I liked before I settled on the one I chose. With all of the interest, I thought I would share some of those other inspiration pictures (and tile options) that I looked at.

Just as a reminder, this was my main inspiration bathroom from Jamie Herzlinger. I loved the graphic design with the big white tiles and the black outline.
To replicate this exactly, you would need to buy some large white marble tiles and then install a couple of rows of small black marble mosaic tiles.
While I really loved the look, I wasn’t prepared to go through all that work…and then I found these awesome 24″ black and white tiles* that duplicated the look without requiring all the extra effort. And I was sold!
In case you missed it, here’s how it looks in my bathroom.
Black and White Border
Another one of my inspiration pictures was this bathroom in the Siam Hotel in Thailand.
I love the idea of the black outline around the white tiles. This room has it as an edging around the top of the wall tile, as well as on the floor…which replicates the look of an area rug.
If I had done this look, I would have gone for these Greek key border tiles*.

The border comes in 2 parts…the tiles for the straight bits* and the tiles for the corner*…all on mesh backing (so, no…you don’t have to install each tile individually).
Then you can fill in the middle with any type of tile that you want (the picture shows it with these small white mosaic tiles*).
I do really love this idea, too…so I’ll be looking for somewhere else that I can use it.
Checkerboard Pattern

My very first thought when I was re-doing the room was to go with a black and white checker pattern, like this bathroom from House Beautiful.

It’s quite easy to do by buying white tiles* and black tiles* of the same size, and then alternating them on the floor.
In fact, this pattern is exactly what I did when I originally tiled this floor in blue and white. I actually considered going with a really inexpensive solution…painting over the blue tile with black paint to achieve the look without spending very much money at all.
When I was half way through removing all of the existing tiles, I certainly was wishing that I had gone with this option!
Floral Motif

Floral patterned tiles (like the ones in this room) were another of the options I considered. The floor pattern creates an interesting backdrop, and would definitely add some pizzazz to any room.

In this room, they used tiles with a gray background, but they come in black on white* as well as white on black* versions.
You could even mix and match if you wanted to do something even more interesting with the floor!
Hexagon Mosaic

Another pattern I looked at were these hexagonal mosaic tiles, installed with a contrasting hexagonal pattern in black. With these, you get the added interested without being overwhelmed by the pattern. And if you create the pattern yourself, you can control how much black is added.
To create this, you can get sheets of white mosaic hexagonal tiles* (which come with a mesh backing), and a few sheets of black hexagonal tiles*.

Then peel some of the white tiles off the backing to create the hexagonal pattern, glue the mosaic mesh down and put black tiles in the empty spaces to complete the pattern.
Hexagon Flowers

Speaking of mosaic tiles…If you want a more retro feel, this white mosaic tile with a black floral pattern could be just the thing. And this one is less work than the last option since the tile comes with the pattern already created for you.

You can even choose how many flowers you want…get the light pattern* for just a few, or the heavy pattern* if you like more of a statement. (The picture above is the heavy pattern).

If you want a more contemporary feeling, create your own asymmetrical pattern with larger hexagon tiles.

These black* and white hexagonal tiles* are a little more expensive than some of the other options, but they do make a statement in the room.
Graphic Pattern

This beautiful triangle patterned floor provides an interesting graphic base for the rest of this glam black and white bathroom.

These tiles* are a little smaller and not as polished as the ones in the picture above, but the graphic triangle design is very similar. Rotate them when you install them so that the black triangles meet up with the white ones.

This black, white and gray tile* is another option that provides the same kind of impact on the floor.
