Eclectic, Modern, Glam Master Bedroom Design Plan

It’s the start of week 2 of the One Room Challenge (you can find all of my master bedroom inspiration pictures from week 1 HERE) and I’m happy to say I have a design plan! It was looking a little iffy there for a while, but it finally came together.

But first let’s talk about what actually happened in the room this week!

What Have We Done So Far?

While I was trying to figure out the plan, I did have time to move the furniture out of the room. Except for the bed…it is VERY heavy so I’ll have to get some extra muscle to move this baby out of there…any volunteers?

Fortunately for me, my mother is here helping.  She’s been a painting fiend! The doors and windows in the room are done as is a lot of the furniture that is going back in the room. Which is definitely more than would have happened if I was here on my own!

Now on to the fun stuff…the bedroom design plan!

The Design Challenge

The first design challenge for this room is that I don’t want to spend a ton of money re-decorating it. However, I definitely need new floors, which means a good chunk of the budget will be spent on those.

That means there are a number of things that are staying as they are:

Master bedroom bed wall
Master bedroom bed wall
Master bedroom settee and TV cover

So my new plan needs to work with all of those.

Black, white and glam master bathroom

It also needs to co-ordinate with the master bathroom that I re-decorated last year…which means a lot of black and white.

And I always like to have some blue (my favorite color!) in the room to tie in with the rest of my house.

In case you hadn’t noticed, that’s black, white, purple, green, gold and blue!! There you have the second design challenge. How to mix all of those colors in the room and still make it look cohesive

The Bedroom Design Plan

All I have to say is this plan must be meant to be!!

I actually found a duvet cover that combined all of the colors I wanted and it totally solved my color issue.

From there, the rest was relatively easy…I just used all the colors from the duvet as the jumping off point for the rest of the room.

The doors, baseboards and windows will be painted in Benjamin Moore’s Onyx (the same as the doors and moldings in the bathroom).

The walls will be done in Benjamin Moore’s Shadow – it’s more purple than my original inspiration pictures but it looks awesome with the duvet! I chose to use a matte finish to give the walls more of a textural feel.

Because I like a little glam, I will paint the panel moldings (and probably some other accent pieces) in Rustoleum Metallic Accents Champagne*.

As I mentioned last week, I am in love with these glam sputnik chandeliers, so I just had to order one of those!

And I also want a fireplace. Okay, so I don’t have the budget for a real fireplace…but I did manage to find an unfinished fireplace mantel* that I can paint and install to make it look like a fireplace. Maybe some day I’ll get the real deal ?

Last but not least…the floors! These wide-plank engineered wood floors* can be installed right over my concrete subfloor, and are exactly what I’m looking for! Plus they are floating floors, so a little easier to install than the glue-down kind, especially since this is a totally square room.

Then I will be painting and re-configuring some of the other furniture in the room to update it for the new look…plus a few other DIY projects along the way. So I have my work cut out for me!

That’s it for this week’s episode and I really need to go get some work done or I’ll really be in trouble trying to get this room done in time!
