DIY Wine Bottle Centerpieces

Using a lot of candles and floral arrangements helps to create a Wow factor for your party decor. But all of those candle holders and vases can get expensive. Which is why I like to use these DIY wine bottle centerpieces. They look pretty, are really inexpensive and can be easily customized to match your party theme colors.

Whenever I’m throwing a party where I need a lot of candle holders or vases, these DIY wine bottle centerpieces come in handy. (You could also use liquor bottles if that’s what you have on hand.)

They are really inexpensive and easy to make.

And you can make them in any color to match your party decor.

So when I wanted a bunch of candle holders for my Great Gatsby party, I decided to make some white, black and gold ones to go with the roaring 20’s color scheme.

These are just 5 of the versions I made.

There are so many different ways to decorate them that you could create a different look for every bottle and let each of your guests take one home at the end of the night as a unique party favor.

Supplies

Here’s what I used to make these DIY wine bottle centerpieces:

Materials

gold spray paint*
flat black spray paint*
5 1/2″ wide white lace*
pearl string*
5 1/2″ wide black lace*
4 1/2″ wide rhinestone ribbon*
2″ gold mesh ribbon (from Costco)
2″ white and gold ribbon (from Costco)

Tools

empty box
repositionable spray adhesive*
mini glue gun on low heat
scissors

1 | Remove The Labels

The first step is to remove the labels.

To do this, I soaked the bottles in water for a few hours.

After that, most of the labels peeled right off.

For the ones that didn’t, I used a paint scraper to get the extra sticky stuff off. You could probably also use Goo Gone or another type of adhesive remover if you prefer.

Then I washed them with dish soap to make sure the outsides were clean.

2 | Spray Paint The Bottles

Next, I spray painted the bottles.

I did some of them all gold and some all black.

And then I made a few that are two toned.

For these ones, I sprayed them all black first. And then spray painted the bottom gold. The overspray from the gold paint creates the ombre effect.

3 | Wine Bottle Centerpiece #1

For the first wine bottle centerpiece, I used white lace and some of the pearl string on one of the gold wine bottles.

1. Spray the bottom half of the wine bottle with the repositionable adhesive. I like to do this in an empty cardboard box since it keeps the adhesive from going everywhere.

2. Then wrap the white lace around the bottle, lining the bottom of the lace up with the bottom of the bottle.

3. Cut off any excess ribbon.

4. Add a dot of hot glue to the bottom of the bottle neck.

5. Stick one end of the pearl string to the hot glue.

6. Then wrap the pearl string around the neck of the bottle until you get up to the top.

7. Add another dot of hot glue to hold the other end of the pearl string in place.

8. Cut off the pearl string.

4 | Wine Bottle Centerpiece #2

The next of my Gatsby wine bottle DIY centerpieces uses similar materials, but it has black lace instead of white.

And I used the pearls to outline the top and the bottom of the lace.

1. Spray the bottom of the bottle with the repositionable spray adhesive.

2. Wrap the black lace around the bottle, lining the bottom of the lace up with the bottom of the bottle.

3. Cut off the extra lace.

4. Apply a line of hot glue to the bottom edge of the lace.

5. Stick the string of pearls to the hot glue.

6. When you get back to the starting point, cut off the pearl string.

7 & 8. Repeat the same process to add the pearls to the top of the lace.

5 | Wine Bottle Centerpiece #3

The third DIY wine bottle centerpiece uses a flat black wine bottle, rhinestone ribbon and pearls to create a shimmery look.

The pearls outline the top and bottom of the rhinestone ribbon, similar to what we did with the black lace above.

Add The Ribbon And Pearls To The Middle Of The Bottle

1. To start, add a line of hot glue down one side of the rhinestone ribbon.

2. Stick that end of the ribbon onto the middle of the bottle, making sure it is straight. Then wrap the ribbon around the bottle to get back to the starting point.

3. Cut off the extra ribbon.

4. Put a line of hot glue down the side of the other end of the rhinestone ribbon.

5. Stick it onto the side of the bottle.

6. Now we’re going to add a line of pearls around the top of the rhinestone ribbon. Add a line of hot glue along the top of the ribbon.

7. Stick the pearl string on to the hot glue.

8. Repeat the same steps to stick the pearl string along the bottom of the rhinestone ribbon.

Add The Ribbon And Pearls To The Neck Of The Bottle

9. Cut a piece of the rhinestone ribbon that is just wide enough to fit on the neck of the bottle. For my wine bottle, it has 6 rhinestones wide.

10. Use hot glue to stick the end of the ribbon to the bottle.

11. Wrap the ribbon around the neck of the bottle and glue it down with the hot glue.

12. Cut off the excess ribbon.

13. Add a line of hot glue around the top of the ribbon.

14. Glue down the pearl string and cut it off when you get back to the beginning.

15. & 16. Repeat the steps to glue the pearl string around the bottom of the rhinestone ribbon.

6 | Wine Bottle Centerpiece #4

The next one of my DIY wine bottle centerpieces used a flat black wine bottle with some 2″ wide mesh gold ribbon.

1. Add a line of hot glue along one end of the ribbon.

2. Stick the end onto the bottle so that the ribbon is about an inch from the bottom of the bottle.

3. Wrap the ribbon around the bottle and hot glue the other end to the bottle.

4. Cut off the extra ribbon.

5. Repeat the same steps to add another layer of ribbon higher up on the bottle.

6. Add more ribbon around the neck of the bottle.

Avoid wrapping the ribbon around sections of the bottle that are on an angle since that will make it difficult to get the ribbon to lay flat.

7 | Wine Bottle Centerpiece #5

The last DIY wine bottle centerpiece design is the easiest of the bunch. Because the bottle already has two-toned paint, I didn’t think it needed a lot of embellishment, so I only added one ribbon.

This ribbon goes on the same way as it did for the last one.

Add some hot glue along one edge.

Wrap the ribbon around the bottle, and then glue down the other end.

The Finished Look

Even though all of the bottles have a different design, using the same colors makes them look like like they belong together.

They looked beautiful on my Great Gatsby tablescape (I’ll be doing an upcoming post on the rest of the table in the next couple of weeks).

They also work well for small floral arrangements. I used them with faux flowers for my Gatsby party, but they would work equally well with real flowers.
